Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 1, 2026

babysitter.net is operated by Babysitters Network LLC(“we”, “us”, “our”), a directory that connects families with independent babysitters. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

  • Account information: full name, email address, password (stored hashed), and account role (parent or babysitter).
  • Contact information: phone number, ZIP/postal code, city, and state/province.
  • Profile information (babysitters): bio, profile photo, hourly rate, years of experience, availability, languages spoken.
  • Job posts (parents): job title, description, schedule, required languages, and location (ZIP/postal code, city, state/province, country).
  • Messages: the content of in-app messages exchanged between users.
  • Payment metadata: billing records and subscription status. Card details are collected and stored by our payment processor (Stripe); we never see or store full card numbers.
  • Background-check documents (babysitters only): documents you choose to upload for verification.
  • SMS opt-in records: the date and time you consented to receive text messages, and the exact wording you agreed to.
  • Technical data: IP address, device type, browser, and basic usage logs.

2. How we use your information

  • To match parents and babysitters by location (city, state/province, ZIP/postal code) and language across the United States and Canada.
  • To deliver in-app messaging and account notifications (including SMS verification codes and message alerts).
  • To process payments, subscriptions, and one-time contact unlocks.
  • To review background-check documents and award verification badges.
  • To prevent fraud, abuse, and unsafe behavior.

3. SMS messaging and your mobile information

If you provide a mobile number and opt in, we send transactional SMS messages about your account — for example, phone verification codes, new-message alerts, and job-match notifications. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing with subcontractors who support our service (for example, our SMS delivery provider) is permitted solely to deliver the messages you have requested. All other use case categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

4. How we share information

  • Between users: your first name and last initial, city / state or province / ZIP or postal code area, profile information, and any messages you send are visible to the other party in a conversation.
  • Service providers: we use trusted vendors (hosting, payments, SMS delivery, email delivery, analytics) who process data on our behalf under contract.
  • Legal: we may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the safety of users.
  • We do not sell user data.

5. Background-check documents

Documents you upload for verification are stored in encrypted storage and are visible only to babysitter.net reviewers. We retain them only as long as needed to support your verification status, after which they are deleted.

Approved screening partners. We work with National Crime Search (NCS) for babysitters based in the United States and Triton Canada for babysitters based in Canada. When you start a background check through one of these partners, you submit personal information (such as legal name, date of birth, address history, and government ID) directly to that partner, who acts as an independent controller of that data under its own privacy policy. We receive only the pass/fail status and the report summary we need to award the Verified badge. The Verified badge is valid for twelve (12) months; a renewal check through the same approved partners is required each year to keep it active.

Canadian residents (PIPEDA). If you reside in Canada, we handle your personal information in accordance with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). By creating an account and by initiating a Triton background check, you consent to the collection, use, and cross-border transfer of your personal information for the purposes described in this policy. Our service providers — including hosting (United States), payments (Stripe, United States), SMS delivery (Twilio, United States), email delivery (Resend, United States), and background screening (NCS for US residents, Triton for Canadian residents) — process personal information on our behalf under contract. You may withdraw consent, access, or correct your personal information at any time by emailing hello@babysitter.net. Complaints may be directed to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

6. Cookies and analytics
